Ok, this is an article that has long since been overdue. I have watched in sheer dred Lisa Williams and although i never try to judge anyone, i feel that as a professional - i must exercise my right and probably the same thoughts as other mediums - about Lisa Williams, host of her own hit TV show in the states.
One thing that we are all taught whilst developing as mediums is the proper ettiquette and professionalism to be used whilst demonstrating our gifts. The proper use of the ettiquette not only ensures the highest integrity of the medium but also that the medium shows compassion and empathy with the client or individual who is being read from the rostrum or platform. I have been shocked at the blatent disregard for feelings when Lisa Williams decides to give a reading to a member of the public whilst walking along the street. This begs the question; Is this all a set up and do the individuals already know that they are being read? if so, is her mediumship really that good. It would seem that some of Lisa’s readings are spot on and the evidence is amazing although i have witnessed her asking to many questions, which to a hardened skeptic would constitute cold reading. Obviously, i know that readings can take their own form, however, there is certain do’s and dont’s of mediumship. One such dont, is never to offer a reading to a member of the public whilst walking down the street or in a situation where the individual has not asked. You as a medium have a duty of care - just as any lawyer, to be empathetic and professional. My concerns are that if developing students see this type of mediumship, they will feel that it is ok to approach general members of the public which will undoubtedly give us a bad name. Quite frankly, i believe that the readings are set up previously and recorded by the TV crew.
It is important that mediumship is done in a controlled and safe environment and that the feelings of the client is at the forefront of the mediums mind. I am not one for judging anyone, but even i can spot when a reading is set up. I have no doubts that Lisa is probably a good medium but i doubt if she has ever received any professional training. Remember that fame is but an instant in this life and is temporary. No matter how well known someone wants to be, i implore all mediums never to be a leaky medium and offer readings to every tom dick and harry when they have not asked.
This brings me to another point. Mediumship needs to be taken seriously and reality has to set in. No matter how cool you may think it is to pass a message - don’t yearn to be a medium just because you want to look good.
